Position Summary**

The Curriculum Developer, History is responsible for writing, developing, and iterating prototypes, modules and lessons for a new History curriculum at Great Minds. The role is also responsible for producing high-level content plans for the curriculum, including proposing content topics and sources for study. This role requires alignment to the Great Minds learning design for History which is driven by a focus on knowledge building, compelling questions, authentic voices, and exploring important historical topics deeply.

This role is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced curriculum writer, educator, instructional coach, or school leader who possesses K-12 history content knowledge and pedagogical expertise, passion for high-quality, knowledge-building curriculum, and the belief that every child is capable of greatness. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and drive to innovate while remaining committed to the Great Minds’ organizational mission. While the work is remote and the ideal candidate will work well independently, this will also be a highly collaborative position, necessitating a strong sense of teamwork and cooperation.

  • Director, History


  • Research, draft, and propose high-level content goals, plans and module topics.
  • Conduct research to identify, evaluate, and procure high-quality historical primary and secondary sources that support module development
  • Adapt K-2 state Social Studies state standards to K-2 prototypes and propose state specific instructional guidance for teachers
  • Execute and write the K-2 instructional vision during prototyping
  • Collaborate effectively with the senior leadership team, the Director, History, and a growing team of writers and editors within and across grade level teams on instructional design that aligns with the curricular vision
  • Test specific approaches for achieving broad pedagogical goals that are aligned to vision for the curriculum. Align solutions with the curriculum vision and principles
  • Analyze how successful examples of instruction in prototype modules can translate into transferable content development guidelines for a full curriculum
  • Apply feedback to work, valuing both collaboration and iterative process of curriculum development.
  • Adhere to established content development milestones and style guides
  • Maintain ongoing communication with team leadership to facilitate curriculum development, identify and address issues, and provide support and guidance
